Communicate
What does it mean to COMMUNICATE with my students?
Of all the areas of Standards Based Learning, communication is where I struggle the most.
Every school year I meet over 100 new students. Balancing the planning, the "grading" and the "everything else" of teaching is incredibly challenging. And in all honesty, the planning of the day's lesson takes precedence over the grading, because I can't show up to class with no lesson plan or direction for the day. Often the specific feedback and time to reflect on previous assignments takes a back seat. My hope is that creating specific learning targets and scales for every assignment will provide me with a more streamlined approach to giving feedback to my students. If I can front load the expectations for the work, then I can more efficiently hand work back to students with meaningful insights and feedback. I need to hand work back to students in a more timely manner so that the practice of said work is not lost in space.
